A monarch is an individual who reigns over a kingdom or empire as its head of state, usually through hereditary succession.

Analogy

Think about your school principal as an analogy for a monarch. Just like how the principal has authority over everyone in your school and makes important decisions for their benefit, a monarch has authority over their kingdom and makes important decisions for their subjects.
