The time-space compression for social and political movements has never been this short.
The transition from autocratic to democratic governments in the last few decades has been unprecedented. The fall of the Soviet Union kicked off the trend and resulted in the admittance of several new states to supranational organizations. In the last decade, this wave of democratization has hit the Middle East with the Arab Spring.
