We live in a world of amazingly wonderful cultural diversity and at a time when we can encounter and embrace it as never before. This is a presentation of the concept of culture including an overview of key vocabulary and specific examples from this unit of the AP Human Geography course including cultural trait and complex, material vs. non-material culture, independent invention, cultural hearths and diffusion, cultural landscapes, folk/local culture vs. popular culture, ethnocentrism vs. cultural relativism, cultural assimilation, appropriation, and commodification, and a look at some cultural patterns. In addition to merely offering definitions, lots of specific examples are included with some also shared from participants.
