Urban-rural divide
Definition
The urban-rural divide refers to disparities between urban and rural areas in terms of resources, services, opportunities and development.
Analogy
Think of it as a school where the urban area is the main building with more facilities and resources while the rural area is an annex building with fewer amenities.
Related terms
Urbanization: This is the process by which towns and cities are formed and grow due to increasing number of people living and working there - like more students joining the main school building.
Rural Depopulation: This refers to decreasing population in rural areas often due to migration towards cities - similar to students leaving the annex building for better facilities in the main one.
Infrastructure: This term refers to basic physical structures needed for a society or community such as roads, bridges, water supply etc. In our analogy, these would be things like classrooms, libraries or sports facilities in both buildings.
