Retroperitoneal

Definition

Retroperitoneal refers to the anatomical space in the abdominal cavity behind (posterior to) the peritoneum, the lining of the abdominal cavity. This space contains organs that are only partially covered by peritoneum, including parts of the digestive and urinary systems.
