set up in ChatGPT

Three things, and the last one is optional.

• A Fiveable teacher account. You sign in with it when your AI app connects, and your AI app sees the classes and grading sessions in that account.
• Claude or ChatGPT on a plan that allows custom connectors. School-managed AI accounts often block them, so many teachers connect a personal account.
• Optional: Google Classroom and Drive, connected once in a browser at fiveable.me/assignments. Google sign-in can’t run inside a chat.

Best for: Grading files you attach, Google Drive work read by ChatGPT’s own connector, and quick materials.

Custom apps use ChatGPT’s developer mode. Your ChatGPT plan decides whether you can turn it on, and on a work or school workspace, so does your admin. Steps last checked September 26, 2026.

1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, and turn on developer mode. It may sit under Advanced settings.
2. Choose Create app. Name it Fiveable for AP Teachers, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
3. Create the app and sign in with your Fiveable teacher account. Read what Fiveable asks to do, then approve.
4. Start a new chat, add Fiveable for AP Teachers from the + menu, and ask: What can you do with my Fiveable account?

ChatGPT keeps its own copy of Fiveable’s tool list from the day you added the app. When we update Fiveable’s tools, refresh the app in Settings, then Apps, or remove it and add it again.
