how grading works
AP rubric scoring, drafts you approve, per-essay changes, and what goes to Google Classroom.
grading a stack
The same grading the website uses, started and reviewed from your chat. Your AI app carries the conversation; Fiveable does the scoring.
scored on the AP rubric
Every FRQ is scored on the AP rubric for its question type, out of that type’s AP point total: a DBQ out of 7, an SAQ out of 3. You don’t set the points or pick a scale, and neither does your AI app.
the question comes from you or Fiveable
Pick a Fiveable FRQ or SAQ, or paste or screenshot the question you assigned. For a DBQ or any question built on sources, share every document so the rubric can check how students used them. If the question text is wrong, fix the question and the rubric follows it.
you see the rubric first
Fiveable writes the rubric the same way the website does, which takes one to three minutes the first time. You can look it over before scoring, or start grading right away and it writes the rubric first.
your AI app never grades
Scores come only from Fiveable’s grading. Your AI app won’t score work itself, give its own read of a response or a score, suggest a different scale, or offer to regrade on other terms.
drafts until you approve
Every score starts as a draft, and your AI app says which scores are drafts and which you approved. Before you approve a big stack, ask to look at three essays at different scores together.
changes are per essay
Disagree with a score? Change it on that essay, part by part, with a short reason. Nothing else in the stack moves.
grading runs in the background
Start grading and get on with your evening. Ask for progress whenever you like, and retry any essay that didn’t score.
sending grades to Google Classroom
For a stack you imported from a Google Classroom assignment, approved scores can go back to that assignment.
- Only approved scores go, and only for essays that came from that Google Classroom assignment.
- Grades go in as raw AP scores. A 2 on a 3-point FRQ goes in as 2, even when the Classroom assignment is out of 100 points. The preview names both point values and the grade students would see, so you can set the Classroom assignment to the AP total first.
- Written feedback stays in Fiveable. It isn’t sent to Classroom.
- Nothing is sent until you say yes to the preview. You can still change a grade in Google Classroom afterward.
Tip: before you send, set the Classroom assignment’s point value to the AP total for that question type. Then a 2 out of 3 reads as 2/3 for students.
reviewing Fiveable assignments
On Fiveable assignments, FRQs are scored by Fiveable’s AI, by students or by you, depending on the assignment’s scoring setting. Your review queue shows what’s waiting. Handing results back shows a preview first, and a release can’t be taken back.
Adjust a part score and save feedback from the chat. Your AI app tells you whether saved feedback reaches the student now or when you hand results back.
