Definition

Vietnamization refers to the strategy implemented during the Vietnam War by President Richard Nixon, which aimed to shift the responsibility of fighting the war from American troops to South Vietnamese forces. This involved training and equipping South Vietnamese soldiers and gradually withdrawing U.S. combat forces.
