Neville Chamberlain

Definition

Neville Chamberlain was a British prime minister best known for his policy of "appeasement" toward Adolf Hitler's Germany. He signed the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Germany.

Analogy

Imagine you're at school and there's a bully who keeps taking other kids' lunch money. Instead of standing up to him, you decide to give him your lunch money too, hoping this will keep him from causing more trouble. This is similar to what Neville Chamberlain did with Hitler - he gave into his demands hoping it would prevent further conflict.
