De-Stalinization was a process initiated by Nikita Khrushchev, leader of the Soviet Union after Stalin's death in 1953. It involved discrediting Stalin's image and reforming policies associated with his regime.
Imagine if you had an old house that was painted entirely black (Stalin's rule). You decide to repaint it white (Khrushchev's rule) - this is de-Stalinization. But even though you've changed its appearance, some remnants of black paint might still be visible underneath or in hard-to-reach corners - these represent lingering elements of Stalinism.
