Step-size

Definition

Step-size refers to the size or interval between consecutive values when working with sequences, series, or iterative processes. It determines how finely we divide our domain into smaller parts for analysis.

Analogy

Think about walking up stairs. The step-size would be how big each individual step is. If steps are too large, it may be difficult to climb smoothly; if steps are too small, it may take longer than necessary.

Related terms

Delta x (Δx): A notation used to represent the step-size or change in x-values.

Iteration: The process of repeating a sequence of steps or calculations to approach a desired result.

Convergence: When an iterative process approaches a specific value or solution as the step-size decreases.
