attach essays, intro-only dbqs, and more
october 26, 2026
Students can attach outside work to assigned FRQs and compare sample essays by score. Teachers can add paper essays to assignments and assign just a DBQ or LEQ introduction.
For students
- Attach work to any assigned FRQ. On a teacher's assignment, choose "Attach work from somewhere else" to upload a Word, PDF or text file, add photos of handwritten pages, paste text, or scan with your phone. It's scored on the AP rubric like any answer.
- See what each score looks like. The sample essays on the FRQ grading page now show two to four score levels for each FRQ type in AP World, APUSH, AP Human Geography, AP Gov, AP Psychology, AP Bio, AP Chem and AP Physics 1. Compare samples
- World-language FRQs work like the exam. Spanish, French, German, Italian and Latin answers get accented characters first in the character menu, with no English spellcheck. The Argumentative Essay's audio source plays, and AP Chinese and Japanese Story Narrations show all four pictures. Try AP Spanish FRQs
- 1:1 tutoring through UPchieve. Students can reach UPchieve's live tutoring from the Study menu, diagnostic results, unit reviews and study guides.
For teachers
- Add paper and Word essays to an assignment. On a published assignment's Responses tab, choose "Add student work" to bring in essays from paper, Word, photos, Google Drive or Classroom. Each is matched to a student on your roster and scored on the AP rubric. See the Teacher Workspace
- Assign just the introduction. For AP World, APUSH and AP Euro DBQs and LEQs, choose "Introduction only" in the builder. Students write one opening paragraph, scored out of 2 on thesis and contextualization.
- Reset a student's password. From your class roster, create a password reset link for a student whose school email blocks ours. The link goes to you, and the student still picks their own password.
- Class-set imports bring in more. Google Classroom imports read Docs, PDFs, Word files and photos, and list any turn-in that didn't come through. AP Classroom "Last, First" names match your roster, and you're told when a pasted FRQ is missing its chart or map.
Content updates
- New practice questions and FRQs. 1,002 new practice questions across 17 subjects, led by AP Lit (269), AP Comparative Government (98) and AP Physics C: E&M (93), plus 60 new AP Music Theory, 22 AP Gov and 16 AP Spanish Lit FRQs. Practice AP Lit
- More consistent essay scoring. AP history LEQ complexity, AP US Gov argument essays and AP Psych AAQ Part D are scored more consistently. AP Seminar class sets are scored out of 15 and 24, the AP totals.
Fixes
- Drawings, photos and drafts stay saved: closing the drawing panel keeps your strokes, every photo in a batch uploads, work from a laptop and a phone both stay, and an idle practice exam tab no longer overwrites newer progress.
- Work a student saved before an assignment locked is now turned in automatically, so teachers see it and it gets scored. Assigned AP Music Theory dictations play their audio.
