Definition

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945 after World War II with the aim to promote peace, security, cooperation among nations, human rights, social progress and better living standards worldwide.

Analogy

Imagine if your school had a student council made up from representatives from every classroom whose job was to make sure everyone got along well together - that’s what UN does on global scale!

General Assembly: This is one part of the UN where all member states have equal representation. It's like a big meeting where every country gets one vote on important issues.

Security Council: Another part of the UN responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Think about it as school security team but on global level dealing with conflicts between countries instead of students.

Secretary-General: The Secretary-General serves as chief administrative officer at all meetings and carries out any functions that those meetings decide. It's like the principal of the UN.
