Arithmetic Density is the total number of people divided by the total land area. This is what most people think of as density; how many people per area, much like our sprinkle analogy above!
Imagine you're at a concert and there are 1000 fans (people) in an arena that can hold 2000 fans (total land area). The arithmetic density would be 0.5 - half the space is filled with fans!
Population Distribution: How individuals are distributed within an area.
Geographic Information System (GIS): A system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present spatial or geographic data.
Census Data: Official count or survey of a population typically recording various details about individuals such as age, sex etc., often used for calculating arithmetic densities.
