Bohemia

Definition

A historical region in central Europe, occupying the western two-thirds of what is now known as Czech Republic. During the time period we're discussing (17th century), it was part of Habsburg Monarchy and Holy Roman Empire.

Analogy

Imagine Bohemia as your school's popular kid who everyone wants to be friends with or control because they're influential and well-located geographically - just like how various empires wanted control over Bohemia due to its strategic location and wealth.
