Replace, reorder, or remove assignment sections

Adjust the assignment in Edit before or after publishing.

Quick answer

Open the assignment and select Edit. Use the controls on each section to replace its content, move it, or remove it. Fiveable autosaves valid changes; check the save message near the assignment title before leaving.

What to do

  1. Open Edit

From Assignments, open the assignment and select the Edit tab.

Assignment page tabs with Edit selected beside Settings, Responses, and Insights.
Use Edit for the assignment sections themselves; Settings controls timing, grading, and sharing.
  2. Find the section

Scroll to the MCQ, FRQ, diagnostic, reading, or notes section you want to change. The available controls depend on that section type.

  3. Make one change at a time

Use the section actions to replace available content, reorder sections, or remove a section. Review the result before making the next change.

  4. Wait for Saved

The header reports Unsaved changes, Saving…, Saved, or a save error. Do not close the tab until you see Saved.

  5. Preview the new order

Select Preview and move through the assignment as a student will.

Good to know

  • A published assignment can be edited, but students who already started may have seen an earlier version. Make substantial changes before sharing whenever possible.

If something is not working

The header says Couldn't save and keeps retrying.

Keep the page open and use Retry save if it appears. If the message remains, copy any original text you entered, refresh, and check the saved draft before editing again.

I removed every section and cannot publish.

Add at least one valid assignment section. Publish stays unavailable when there is nothing for students to complete.
