Fiveable vs UWorld for APยฎ: 2026 Comparison

Short answer: UWorld is a serious per-subject question bank with a strong reputation for its answer explanations. Fiveable is a full AP prep platform that covers every subject, attaches guides to the practice, grades your free response, and charges one subscription. Which one fits depends on how many AP subjects you're taking and what kind of studying you need.

Every Subject, One Subscription

Fiveable covers all 42 AP subjects with guides attached to practice and full-length exams, plus graded FRQs in 37 of them. There is no per-subject pricing.

What UWorld's AP Question Banks Cover

UWorld made its name on question banks for professional exams, and its AP line works the same way: deep multiple-choice practice with detailed answer rationales, sold one subject at a time.

What it does well:

  • the rationales. Every question comes with a thorough explanation of the reasoning, and that depth is the main reason people choose UWorld.
  • performance tracking that shows which topics keep costing you.
  • a familiar interface if you've used UWorld for anything else.

As of September 2026, UWorld's AP practice-test page lists 15 subjects across STEM, English, and social sciences. World languages, the arts, Physics C, and Precalculus aren't on that list.

Where the Two Products Split

Coverage. UWorld lists 15 subjects; Fiveable covers all 42, including the languages, arts, Physics C, and Precalc that the other prep tools we compared don't reach. If one of your AP subjects falls outside their 15, the comparison ends there for that subject.

What surrounds the questions. Both platforms explain their practice. UWorld's rationales are strong, and Fiveable's questions carry an explanation for every answer choice too. The difference is what's attached beyond the explanation. Fiveable's practice sits next to unit-by-unit study guides for the same material, so a miss leads you to the whole unit behind it, not just the reasoning for that one question.

Free response. This is the biggest difference between them. UWorld's AP question banks are multiple choice, and as of September 2026 its AP practice-test page lists free-response practice as launching in December. Fiveable's FRQ practice is live in 37 AP subjects and gets graded for you, point by point, with feedback built around how each question type earns points. Fiveable publishes how often teachers kept its scores, and what they changed, on the grading quality page.

The math. UWorld sells its AP question banks per subject, listed from $39, with a 7-day free trial and 20% off when you bundle three or more College Prep products (collegeprep.uworld.com, checked September 2026). Fiveable is $79 a year for every subject. For one or two subjects UWorld is the cheaper line item; by your third AP, one Fiveable subscription costs less and covers the rest of your schedule too.

What Needs a Subscription on Fiveable and What Doesn't

Fiveable is a paid product. It costs $79 a year or $29 a month, it includes all 42 AP subjects, and it never charges per subject. Two things need no subscription: the AP diagnostic quiz and the cram session replay archive. Study guides open with a short preview.

We don't make flashcards, and our FRQ grader is software, not a human reader.

Which Should You Pick?

Choose UWorld if you're taking one of their 15 subjects and you want the most multiple-choice reps you can get with deep rationales. Their 7-day trial per subject lets you check the fit before paying.

Choose Fiveable if you're taking several AP subjects and want one subscription that covers all of them, with study guides attached to the practice, free response that gets graded, and full-length exams in every subject including the ones question banks skip.

Using both is legitimate too, if the budget allows. UWorld gives you extra multiple-choice reps in a hard subject, and Fiveable covers everything else and grades your writing.

The Bottom Line

UWorld is built for multiple-choice depth, one subject at a time, and it does that well. Fiveable is built for the whole exam season: study guides, practice, graded free response in 37 subjects, and full-length exams across all 42, on one subscription.

In Fiveable's 2026 voluntary survey, 96% of valid reported AP scores were qualifying scores of 3 or higher (results and methodology).

Frequently Asked Questions About Fiveable vs UWorld

Is UWorld good for AP exam prep?

For multiple-choice depth in the 15 AP subjects UWorld listed as of September 2026, yes; the answer rationales are detailed, and that depth is the main reason people choose it. What it doesn't offer is coverage beyond those 15 subjects, study guides attached to the practice, or free-response grading.

How much does UWorld cost for AP subjects?

It's sold one subject at a time. On collegeprep.uworld.com, checked September 2026, AP question banks were listed from $39 per subject, with a 7-day free trial and 20% off when you bundle three or more College Prep products. For comparison, Fiveable is $79 a year with all 42 AP subjects included, so by your third AP subject the one-subscription math wins.

Does UWorld grade your FRQs?

Not yet. UWorld's AP question banks are multiple choice, and as of September 2026 its AP practice-test page listed free-response practice as launching in December. Fiveable grades FRQ practice for you across 37 AP subjects, point by point, with feedback built around how each question type earns points. 96.2% of APยฎ FRQ responses that teachers reviewed one at a time kept Fiveable's score exactly as given. We publish what teachers kept, what they changed, and how it is measured at fiveable.me/grading/quality. This is what teachers decided in real classrooms, not an independent accuracy study, and it is not a comparison with College Board scoring.

Should I use UWorld and Fiveable together?

If the budget allows, that's a reasonable combination: use UWorld for extra multiple-choice reps in one hard subject and let Fiveable be the main resource, covering all 42 subjects with guides, practice, and full-length exams, plus graded FRQs in 37 of them. For most students taking more than one AP course, one Fiveable subscription covers the whole season.
