The dorsal column system is a sensory pathway of the central nervous system that conveys sensations of fine touch, vibration, and proprioception (the sense of body position) from the skin and musculoskeletal system to the brain. It consists of nerve fibers ascending from the spinal cord to the brainstem before crossing over to the opposite side and reaching the thalamus.
