Resource extraction refers to processes used in obtaining raw materials from the earth such as mining minerals, cutting down trees for timber, drilling oil wells etc., typically on a large scale.
Imagine you have a giant box of assorted chocolates. You're only interested in the ones with caramel filling, so you go through the entire box to extract those specific chocolates. That's similar to resource extraction, but instead of chocolates, it involves valuable resources from the earth.
Mining: The process of extracting valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth.
Deforestation: The removal or clearing of forests by humans, often for timber or to make way for agricultural activities.
Fracking: A method used to extract natural gas and oil from deep rock formations known as shale using high-pressure fluids.
