Rational-Emotive Therapy (RET) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy developed by psychologist Albert Ellis, designed to identify irrational beliefs and thoughts, challenge them, and replace them with more rational ones.
Think of RET like a gardener weeding out the garden. The irrational beliefs are the weeds that hinder growth. The therapist helps you identify these weeds (irrational beliefs), pull them out (challenge them), and then plant new seeds (rational beliefs) for a healthier mental garden.
