Definition

The geographic grid refers to the system of imaginary lines (latitude and longitude) used to divide the surface of the Earth.

Analogy

Think of the geographic grid like the game board for Battleship. Just as you use coordinates to find your opponent's ships, geographers use this grid to locate places on Earth.
