The Triple Entente was a military alliance between Great Britain, France, and Russia in the years preceding World War I.
It's like three friends promising to back each other up in a schoolyard fight. They may not always get along perfectly, but they've agreed to support each other when it counts.
Central Powers: A group of nations fighting against the Allied Powers during World War I; the members included Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
Treaty of Versailles: The most important peace treaty that brought World War I to an end; it ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
Balance of Power: A situation in which nations of the world have roughly equal power; the power held by a small group when larger groups are of equal strength.
