Stalingrad

Definition

Stalingrad was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia.

Analogy

Think of Stalingrad as an intense game of tug-of-war. Both sides are pulling with all their might, but eventually, one side (in this case, the Soviet Union) pulls harder and wins. This victory was a turning point in the war because it showed that Nazi Germany could be defeated.
