Definition

Large-scale agricultural enterprises where enslaved Africans were forced to work, especially in the Americas. They primarily produced crops like sugar, tobacco, and cotton.

Analogy

Think of plantations as a factory farm. Just like a factory produces goods on a large scale using machines, plantations produced crops on a large scale using human labor.
