Definition

New York refers to the city located in the northeastern United States. It was originally settled by the Dutch who established it as a trading post called New Amsterdam in 1626, later taken over by the English and renamed New York.

Analogy

Imagine if your favorite video game had a new level that was initially created by one group of players, but then another group of players took over and changed its name. That's kind of what happened with New York!
