Neutrality refers to a state or country's policy of not taking sides or getting involved in conflicts between other nations. A neutral country aims to maintain its independence and avoid being drawn into war or alliances.
Think of neutrality as being Switzerland during a heated argument between friends - you don't pick sides because you want to stay out of trouble.
Non-Aligned Movement: A group of countries that chose not to align themselves with either the NATO or Warsaw Pact during the Cold War.
Isolationism: A policy followed by some countries to avoid involvement in international affairs or alliances. This approach prioritizes national interests over global engagement.
Permanent Neutrality: A legal status granted to certain countries under international law, recognizing their perpetual neutrality even during times of conflict. Examples include Switzerland and Austria.
