Producers are organisms that can convert sunlight into chemical energy through photosynthesis. They form the base of most food chains and provide energy for other organisms.
Think of producers as solar panels on rooftops. Just like solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into usable electricity, producers capture sunlight and convert it into usable energy for themselves and other organisms in the ecosystem.
Autotrophs: Another term for producers, which means they can produce their own food.
Chlorophyll: The pigment found in plants that absorbs light energy for photosynthesis.
Primary Productivity: The rate at which producers convert solar energy into chemical energy through photosynthesis.
