NOx refers to a group of gases composed mainly of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO). They are primary pollutants released from burning fossil fuels, vehicle emissions, and industrial processes.
Think of NOx as the "bad boys" of air pollution. Just like how troublemakers can cause chaos in a classroom or school, NOx emissions from vehicles and industries can contribute to poor air quality and environmental problems.
Primary Pollutants: Primary pollutants are directly emitted into the environment from human activities or natural sources. NOx is one example of a primary pollutant.
Secondary Pollutants: Secondary pollutants are harmful substances that form in the atmosphere through chemical reactions involving primary pollutants like NOx. They do not require direct emission but are produced indirectly.
Smog: Smog is a type of air pollution characterized by hazy atmospheric conditions caused by high levels of ground-level ozone (O3) and other pollutants like NOx. It often occurs in urban areas with heavy traffic and industrial activities.
