Dissolution is the process by which a solute in gaseous, liquid, or solid phase dissolves in a solvent to form a solution.
Think of dissolution like mixing sugar into your coffee. The sugar (solute) dissolves in the coffee (solvent) and forms a sweetened coffee solution.
Solvent: A substance that can dissolve other substances. In our analogy, the coffee is the solvent.
Solute: A substance that gets dissolved in another substance. In our analogy, the sugar is the solute.
Solution: The result of a solute being dissolved in a solvent. In our analogy, the sweetened coffee is the solution.
