Dissociate

Definition

Dissociation in chemistry refers to the process where compounds split into smaller particles, usually ions.

Analogy

Think of dissociation like a group of friends at a party. When they first arrive, they stick together (like a compound). But as the night goes on, they start to mingle and separate from each other (dissociate) into individual people (ions).
