Conjugate bases are formed when an acid donates a proton (H+) to another substance. They are the species that remain after the acid loses its proton.
Acid: A substance that can donate a proton.
Proton: A positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom.
Dissociation: The process by which an acid breaks apart into its conjugate base and a hydrogen ion.
