The mesothelium is a thin layer of specialized epithelial tissue that lines certain internal organs and body cavities, including the heart (pericardium), lungs (pleura), and abdominal organs (peritoneum). It provides a protective, smooth surface facilitating the movement of these organs within their cavities.
