Definition

The diencephalon is a division of the brain located between the cerebral hemispheres and above the brainstem, integral for relaying sensory information and managing numerous functions like emotion, memory, and autonomic control. It principally comprises structures such as the thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus, and subthalamus.
