Definition

Disengagement theory is a sociological perspective suggesting that withdrawing from social and professional roles is a natural, inevitable process of aging. It posits that this gradual disengagement benefits both the individual, by reducing stress, and society, by allowing for the transfer of responsibilities to younger generations.
