After the Columbian Exchange, the economy was more globalized than ever before and this directly led to the rise of new land and sea empires that expanded in this era. The connection of the New and Old World dramatically increased the available food sources, so populations increased across Afro-Eurasia. As a result, land & sea empires increased productivity and expanded rapidly.
