The rise of industrialization sparked an increase demand for raw materials and for new markets because production was so much faster. Imperialism wasn’t a new concept in the 19th century, but there was a renewed mission to colonize lands in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. European states including Belgium, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, and Germany battled for stolen lands through diplomacy, war, and secret treaties.
