Between 1450 and 1750, the world became a whole lot smaller. Before this time period, the Americas and Afro-Eurasia developed entirely separately, as if they were on different planets. Then, everything changed when the two hemispheres were connected. In some cases, these changes were positive as populations increased with more food sources, new technologies improved daily life, and prosperity led to waves of innovation in art and science. However, all of this was at the expense of Indigenous populations that quickly succumbed to diseases and millions were enslaved so few could profit from the new cash crops and trade routes. In this session, Dylan Black (who earned a 5 last year), will explain exactly what to know about period 4.
