Negative Symptoms:These refer to the absence of normal behaviors found in healthy individuals. They include lack of motivation (avolition), reduced emotional expression (affective flattening), and decreased production of speech (alogia).
Cognitive Symptoms: These involve problems with thought processes. They may be positive or negative symptoms and include problems with attention, certain types of memory, and the executive functions that allow us to plan and organize.
