Three categories:

Purpose: Solve problems or enable creative expression.

Understanding the purpose of a computing innovation gives developers an improved ability to develop that innovation.

Program: Collection of statements that performs a specific task when run.

Code segment: Part of a program (subset of statements).

Key requirements:

• Must work for variety of inputs and situations
• Behavior describes how it functions during execution
• Can be described broadly (what it does) or in detail (what + how)

Documentation:

• Written description of function and development
• Comments are code-embedded documentation
• Should acknowledge code from other sources
• Helps maintain programs individually or collaboratively
