Definition

The Zong Massacre refers to an incident that occurred in 1781 when around 130 enslaved Africans were thrown overboard from a British slave ship called Zong. The ship's crew did this as an insurance scam, claiming that they had jettisoned 'cargo' due to shortage of water.
