Formulating Questions for Sustained Investigation
Sustained investigation = inquiry-based, in-depth study of materials, processes, and ideas over time.
How to identify inquiry:
- Reflect on documentation of experiences
- Think about past/current work, knowledge, skills, intentions, goals
- Ask open-ended queries: What if? How? Why?
- Focus on questions that guide thinking and making
- Envision possibilities within and beyond art/design disciplines
- Group similar questions together
- Rank questions by potential for discovery
- Exchange constructive feedback on clarity and depth potential
Key point: Questions are continually formulated, documented, developed, and evaluated throughout investigation. Making and learning inspire new questions; discovery leads to refinement.
