Definition

The lateral ventricles are two large, C-shaped cavities located within the brain that are part of the ventricular system, responsible for producing and circulating cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to cushion and protect the brain and spinal cord. These structures are lined with ependymal cells which facilitate the production of CSF.
