Fiveable connects to your Google Classroom, brings in what students turned in, and scores each AP® FRQ point by point in 37 subjects. You review every score before it counts.

Yes. Fiveable is an AI grader for AP® teachers that connects to Google Classroom: you pick a course and an assignment, it brings in the files your students turned in, and it scores each free-response answer point by point, built around how that question type earns points. You review every score and approve it, because the grade is yours. Other AI graders connect to Classroom too, and they differ most in what they send back to it.

What Fiveable Does With Google Classroom

Fiveable works with Classroom in two directions: it brings finished work in for grading, and it hands new Fiveable assignments off to Classroom for posting.

What you want to doWhat happens
Grade work students already turned inFiveable lists your Classroom courses and assignments, then imports the turned-in Google Docs, PDFs, Word files and photos you select
Get student names on each responseNames come from the course roster in Classroom, matched to each turn-in
Use the assignment's promptIf the Classroom assignment has a Google Doc or PDF attached, Fiveable reads the prompt from it
Post a new Fiveable assignmentFiveable opens Classroom's share screen with the title, instructions and student link filled in, and you select Assign there
Get grades outApproved scores export to CSV or Google Sheets, or print as PDF handouts

Grades don't go back into the Classroom gradebook from Fiveable's website today. Google lets an app change grades only on assignments that app created, so you enter the approved scores in Classroom from the export.

How It Works With Google Classroom

Grading a Classroom assignment takes a few minutes of setup, then the scoring runs on its own.

  1. Open Grade finished work in Fiveable and choose Google Classroom as the source.
  2. Sign in with the Google account that teaches the class and allow access to your courses.
  3. Choose the course and the assignment. Google's file picker opens so you can select the turned-in files Fiveable may read.
  4. Check the imported responses. Any turn-in Fiveable couldn't use is listed with the reason: no file attached, a file you didn't select, a file it couldn't read, or more than one file.
  5. Confirm the subject and FRQ type. Fiveable scores each response point by point and shows its reasoning for every point.
  6. Review the scores, change any you see differently, and approve them. Then export to CSV or Google Sheets and enter the grades in Classroom.

On a school Google account, your Workspace admin may need to allow Fiveable before Classroom shares courses with it. If Google says access was denied, that approval is usually the missing step.

Why Question-Type Scoring Matters in a Classroom Grader

Many AI graders ask you to paste in or build a rubric. That works for a lab report or a reading response. It works less well for AP free-response, where the point structure is set by College Board and differs by question type. A DBQ earns points for contextualization, evidence and sourcing. A Lang argument essay is scored on thesis, evidence and commentary, plus sophistication. A Bio FRQ awards points for parts of an experimental design.

Fiveable scores every FRQ point by point, built around how its question type earns points and out of that type's AP point total, in 37 subjects. You don't build a rubric or set point values. When you see a response differently, you change that student's score.

You review every score before it counts because you are the grader of record, and the grade students see is the one you approved. Fiveable publishes what teachers kept and changed, by subject, on its grading quality page.

How Other AI Graders Work With Google Classroom

If you need grades written straight into the Classroom gradebook, pick a tool that creates the assignment in Classroom itself, because that's the only way Google allows it. If you need AP free-response scored point by point for each question type, Fiveable was built for that, and you finish in Classroom from the export.

Assigning AP Practice Through Google Classroom

Fiveable also builds assignments from its own AP question bank, with multiple-choice questions and FRQs for every AP subject with a written exam. When you publish one and choose Google Classroom, Fiveable opens Classroom with the title, instructions and link ready, and you pick the class. Students open the link from Classroom, sign in with Google or email, and complete the work on Fiveable with their own Fiveable account. Multiple choice scores itself, and FRQs get the same point-by-point first pass and your review before anything is released.

If your grading starts somewhere else, the same flow takes Google Drive folders, AP Classroom exports, scans and pasted text. For a wider look at how AP teacher graders compare beyond Classroom, see AI grading tools for AP teachers.

Frequently Asked Questions About AI Grading With Google Classroom

Is there an AI grader for teachers that works with Google Classroom?

Yes. Fiveable connects to your Google Classroom, lists your courses and assignments, and brings in the files students turned in: Google Docs, PDFs, Word files and photos. It scores each AP FRQ for its question type in 37 subjects, and you review every score before it counts. Other graders that connect to Classroom include GradeWithAI, EssayGrader, ClassLens and GradingPal.

Does Fiveable send grades back to Google Classroom?

Not from the website today. Google lets an app change grades only on assignments that app created, so after you approve the scores you export them to CSV or Google Sheets, or print PDF handouts, and enter them in Classroom yourself. The point-by-point feedback stays in Fiveable.

Can I post a Fiveable assignment to Google Classroom?

Yes. When you publish an assignment, choose Google Classroom and Fiveable opens Classroom's share screen with the title, instructions and student link filled in. You pick the class and select Assign there. Students open the link and complete the work on Fiveable with their own Fiveable account, which needs no paid plan.

Does it import my Google Classroom roster?

Fiveable reads the roster of the course you import from so each turned-in file arrives with the student's name. It doesn't create Fiveable classes from your Classroom roster. After an import, you can link the course to a Fiveable class, and later imports from that course go to the same class.

Why does Google say access was denied?

On a school Google account, your Google Workspace admin may need to allow Fiveable before Classroom will share courses with it. If the import says Google denied access, ask your IT admin to approve Fiveable in the Google Admin console. Fiveable asks for access to your courses, coursework and roster and to the files you pick in Google's file picker. It never asks for student email addresses.

How much does it cost?

Your first 3 assignments are included without a plan. Teacher Workspace is $29/month for unlimited assignments, AI grading and class insights.
