Intro to Political Science

Definition

Structural realism is a theory in international relations that emphasizes the anarchic structure of the international system, where no central authority exists, leading states to act primarily out of self-interest to ensure their survival. It suggests that the behavior of states is determined more by the constraints and opportunities this system presents than by their individual characteristics or internal politics.
