A security dilemma occurs when one state's efforts to increase its own security cause insecurity in other states, leading to a cycle of escalation that can decrease overall security. This concept is central to the Realist Worldview in International Relations, highlighting how the pursuit of power and survival can inadvertently heighten tensions.
