Federalist Papers

Definition

The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 articles and essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the pseudonym "Publius" to promote the ratification of the United States Constitution. These papers provide insight into the framers' intentions and advocate for a strong central government as opposed to a loose confederation of states.
