Transitional epithelium is a type of epithelial tissue specialized to stretch and recoil. It lines organs that need to expand, such as the bladder.

Transitional epithelium is composed of multiple layers of cells that can change shape based on the degree of stretching.
This type of tissue is found lining the urinary bladder, ureters, and part of the urethra.
The cells in transitional epithelium are dome-shaped when relaxed and become flattened when stretched.
Transitional epithelium provides a barrier against urine, protecting underlying tissues from its potentially harmful effects.
It allows organs to maintain a protective lining while accommodating fluctuations in fluid volume.
