Virginia Resolutions

Definition

These were a set of resolutions passed in 1798, written by James Madison, which also argued against Alien and Sedition Acts on grounds of states' rights and constitutional interpretation.

Analogy

If Kentucky Resolutions were like arguing against new rules in board game, Virginia Resolutions would be like bringing out rulebook itself to prove your point. They used Constitution as their 'rulebook' to argue against Alien and Sedition Acts.
