US-Soviet relations refer to diplomatic interactions between the United States and Soviet Union from 1917-1991 during which both superpowers were often engaged in political conflict known as Cold War.
Imagine two high school rivals constantly competing against each other - not just in sports but also academics, arts etc., trying to outdo each other at every turn. That was essentially what US-Soviet relations were like during this period.
Cold War: A period of geopolitical tension between powers in Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union & its satellite states) & Western Bloc (US & its allies).
Detente: A French term meaning "relaxation", used in international politics for easing tensions between superpowers during Cold War era.
Arms Race: An intense competition between nations regarding advancements in science technology weaponry.
