Religious refuge refers to safety sought by individuals or groups due persecution based on their religious beliefs in their home country.
Think of religious refuge as a safe house in a game of tag. If you're being chased (persecuted), the safe house (refuge) is where you can go to be free from the threat.
Persecution: This refers to hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race, political or religious beliefs.
Asylum: This is protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their native country as a political refugee.
Pilgrims: These were early settlers of the Plymouth Colony in present-day Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States who sought religious freedom.
